Group fly outs to area restaurants and places of interest are facilitated through a GroupMe app which insures the inclusion of all interested pilots on the park. There are close to 40 runways within a 30 mile radius of Salome - both dirt and paved.
Indian Hills Airpark hosts EAA Chapter 1144. Meetings are held in our airpark Community Room the second Saturday of the month with lunch at noon, and the meeting at 1:00 pm followed by interesting programs on aviation. Check our calendar for scheduled meeting and guest speakers.
Residents of our airpark enjoy a variety of social events organized by members. Past gatherings included Halloween Party, Thanksgiving, Christmas Dinner, New Year's Eve Party, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Movie Nights, and of course Birthday Parties. In addition, there are nightly gatherings and hangar parties. Dune buggy rides in our very interesting desert are another popular activity. Not a social person? No worries, there are many airpark homes that provide privacy as you enjoy the great Arizona winter weather.
A slice of Arizona's Peace Trail cuts through Salome in La Paz County. But, we airpark members are more about the adventure and cut our own path so to speak. There are many local desert ride destinations in and around our local McMullen Valley. Short trips out (3 hours), longer trips (6 hours), and full day trips exploring Red Rock Canyon, Tear Drop Pass, or our local mountaintop observatory with a spectacular view way beyond our oasis. A favorite ride is to the top of a near mountain top we locals call the "Blue Spool" where we barbecue and star gaze.
Many of our Airpark Family trek the pilgrimage to Oshkosh every year meeting and camping as a group to be a part of the largest airshow on earth. Some IHAA members volunteer yearly to support EAA. Join our family join our fun. Yes, flying airplanes is just a part of our social activities.
